A traveling theater tour through shops and childhood memories

The streets of Montalto delle Marche’s historic center are transformed into an open-air stage to host “La via che respira”, a traveling theater tour born from the work of MetroTeatro Montalto Lab, a community theater workshop that in recent months has engaged local residents in collecting memories, voices, and snippets of life from the local area.

The performance takes the audience along one of the village’s ancient streets, once the beating heart of artisan shops and daily life in the town. Through stories, songs, theatrical scenes, personal testimonies, and group performances, spectators will be guided on a journey that weaves together the community’s history with the participants’ personal experiences and childhood memories.

Part traveling performance, part narrated tour of the village, the journey will see the workshop participants take on the role of unconventional travel guides. They will be the ones to open invisible doors to the past, bringing to light trades, encounters, small everyday episodes, and the people who once lived on these streets. Step by step, the village will reveal itself not merely as a place to pass through, but as a space to listen to, where every alleyway preserves traces of lives that continue to breathe in the present.

“La via che respira" is not just a performance, but an opportunity to rediscover the community’s intangible heritage through the voices of those who preserve and pass it down. An invitation to walk together, to slow down, and to let ourselves be guided by what often escapes our gaze: the stories, gestures, and relationships that have shaped the places we call home.
