Thanks to the Metroborgo Montaltolab project, the design workshop at the Monastery of Santa Chiara will host on the ground floor a multimedia presentation about the history of the Urbanist Clarisse nuns of Montalto delle Marche, who from the 17th century until 2019 shaped the essence of the town’s oldest quarter. Although devoted to a cloistered life, these nuns became part of Montalto’s history and collective memory. Their story will be presented through an emotional narrative that aims to convey to both visitors and locals the lives, habits, and visions of a spiritual community that for years maintained a tangible presence, including through their skilled handiwork—creating amulets, garments, and linens for generations.
This very expertise in making and transforming objects will also introduce an exploration of craftsmanship in Montalto and the Piceno area, offering insight into a unique and distinctive intangible cultural heritage.
