Located in a pleasant, sunlit setting, it is also popularly known as the “Madonna Tonna” (from tonda, meaning round) because of the distinctive octagonal shape of its plan. Inside, it preserves a 15th-century fresco and 18th-century Murano glass chandeliers. In September it hosts the rural Feast of the Madonna Tonna, with folk music and traditional food, commemorating the Nativity of the Virgin on September 8. At present, the interior is not accessible due to the building’s unsafe condition following the earthquake.
