The opening of the Porchia Mill enriches the Mills Route. Located near the Mill of Pope Sixtus V, the building dates back to around the 14th century, although the presence of watermills along the Aso River, used for grinding grain, has been documented since the 11th century.
It is reductive to regard watermills as mere workshops. Far more fascinating is to imagine them, as Benedetto Salvucci writes in “Il grano fino alla trebbiatura… e un po’ di pane”, as witnesses to an evolving millennia-old past — both to human ingenuity and to the wealth they represented, since for centuries they provided sustenance for everyone.
The opening is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
Afterwards, the mill will be open every Saturday, with free admission:
MORNING: from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
AFTERNOON: from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
In addition, it will be possible to visit the mill on Wednesdays, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, by telephone reservation only, for groups of at least 6 people, at +39 339 330 7489.
