A new theatre season awaits audiences at the Teatro della Fiaba e della Poesia in Montalto delle Marche, running from 13 December 2025 to 29 April 2026.
The programme is promoted by the Municipality of Montalto delle Marche and AMAT, with the support of the Marche Region and the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC).

The season is part of the Metroborgo MontaltoLab project – Presidio di Civiltà Future – of which AMAT is a partner.

In addition to the subscription season, the project launches another important section entitled Metroborgo MontaltoLab Multidisciplinary Residencies.
This programme includes not only performances, but also workshop-based activities led by the resident companies, actively involving the citizens of Montalto delle Marche.

In the Name of the Mother is the story, told in the first person, of Miriàm, a young woman from Galilee who experiences a strange vision in which an angel announces that she will have a son and foretells for him a destiny of greatness.

Shortly afterward, the young woman discovers that she is pregnant. After some hesitation, she decides to inform Iosef, her betrothed. Miriàm is fully aware that she risks being stoned, yet she refuses any lie, asserting the mystery of her pregnancy and her absolute good faith. Iosef—also following a prophetic dream—decides that the marriage will take place as planned, defying the respectable citizens of Nazareth and the laws of the time. Meanwhile, the hated Roman occupiers organize a census, and for the young couple a long and arduous journey looms, just days before the birth.

Drawing on the simple, clear language of poetry, Erri De Luca recounts the pregnancy of Miriàm/Mary. The Talmud, more than a decade of biblical studies, and Roman historians provide him with valuable material to give the story a credible background. Yet it is not a historiographical urgency that drives De Luca; rather, it is the desire to tell “something that does not exist”—a secular and poetic version of the birth of Jesus.

In the Name of the Mother is a text filled with Grace, capable of moving and inspiring both believers and non-believers alike. The staging aims to create an intimate moment of encounter with the audience. Miriàm/Mary, now an adult woman who has consciously accepted the destiny of her son, wishes to share her personal experience with us, without embellishment, inviting us to pass on her message of love, courage, and hope.
